With manga recognised as literature, it would be easier for fascinating ideas presented in manga to receive the scholarly attention they might well deserve.

I have said before that I think manga can be considered literature, but Yotsubato! is not literature. It is a masterwork of an entirely different medium of artistic expression. Really, I think Yotsubato! stands alongside the works of Urasawa Naoki and Asano Inio as an exemplar of what manga is capable of.

While others may have not seen the literary merit of manga, I found Death Note, Ouran High School Host Club, and other manga series enjoyable and worthy of being called literature.
